Tossa is
well known for its gastronomy. Due to the
geographical situation of the village, our
kitchen is typically mediterranean and, above
all, seamens style.
In the local restaurants
you will find a good representation of the Costa
Brava dishes -fish soup, steamed mussels,
"escalivada" (baked aubergines, red
peppers and onions), casseroled rice,
"suquet" (fish casserole)- as well as
the local specialities: stuffed squid, salt cod
brandade, "simitomba" (fish with a
garlic sauce), rabbit or chicken with prawns,
etc.
If you prefer to taste our fish
backed or grilled, bass,
sea-bream, sea perch or
turbot are all excellent fishes. But you will
also find in our menus all sorts of crustacea,
shellfish, meat -veal from Girona is famous-, and
a long list of Catalan, Spanish and international
dishes.
As a local product we recommend
you to try our honey, of very good quality, which
you can buy in many shops and supermarkets.
