HOUSE OF CULTURE AND CHAPEL OF SANT MIQUEL

The House of Culture was founded in 1773 as a hospital for the poor by Tomás Vidal i Rey, a man from Tossa who became wealthy in America. The building has two floors and a courtyard in the middle. Side by side is the chapel of Sant Miquel, standing out the baroque altar with the saint’s image and the svelte cupola.

It was runned as a hospital until 1903, and then became converted into a nunnery and a school.

It was restored and rehabilitated in 1984 and has been used since then as seat for cultural activities and for the public library.
