This watch-tower,
popularly known as the Moorish tower, is one of
the local evidences of the towers raised all
along the Mediterranean coast during the XVIth
century by the Spanish king Philipp the IInd to
defend the towns from the attack of the North
African pirates.
These towers used to communicate
between themselves and to keep a constant watch
with one or two watchmen who, in case of danger,
advised the town -by means of a sea horn- so that
the inhabitants would safe-guard themselves
inside the walls.
The watch-tower of Can Magí
was restored and provided with illumination in
1997.
On the point known as the Punta
de Pola are the ruins of another watch-tower
of similar characteristics.
